ABSTRACT
This chapter provides an overview of the educational system in South Africa as well as various legislations and policies that have some level of influence on the education and training process. A brief historical antecedent of South African universities is also presented. Furthermore, the three different components of the South African Educational system are highlighted. This chapter is important to understand the results of higher education, what they have provided, and how the system intends to provide resources to meet the growing needs of the labour market.
