ABSTRACT

This chapter describes how to choose appropriate references to improve research impact. Referencing a scientific paper helps reviewers and readers understand the background information, research motivation, and, most importantly, the contribution. Proper references are also important for increasing research impact because good research papers should always improve on published papers. Authors must correctly cite all relevant and acceptable sources. Due to the importance of references, even reviewers and journal editors use tools to ensure citation accuracy. We also discussed deep learning and adversarial learning. Adversarial learning shows that many modern machine learning algorithms can be broken unexpectedly. These machine learning failures show that even simple algorithms can behave in ways that their authors did not intend.
