ABSTRACT

Competition for cereal grains is increasing between humans and poultry in this country due to increasing human population and increasing demand of poultry products and more or less stagnation in the production of cereal grains, specially the yellow maize around which poultry production grows. Feed formulation for poultry is an art of application of nutritional knowledge for the compounding of balanced feeds. Balanced compounded feeds of poultry are generally supplied in the form of mash, pellets and extruded feeds. The main components of poultry feeds are cereal grins, protein supplements, mineral supplements and vitamin supplements. In the normal feed formulation concentrations of energy and protein are the primary consideration. Feed formulation for different classes of poultry needs special attention for the balanced supply of metabolizable energy, essential amino acids, essential fatty acids, minerals and vitamins. Standard balanced feeds of poultry are the mixture of different feed ingredients, supplements and additives.
