ABSTRACT

Indian peacock is famous for extravagant trains of feathers of the pseudotail, which they spread like broad flag during dancing. Colour mutation has been observed in the flocks of Indian pea fowl, so far there appears to be no information on further multiplication of mutants. In this type of mutation adult peacock is melanistic due to which wings are dark black. The back of pea cock is covered with scaly bronze-green feathers with blue and tan markings. The vocalization also increases due to danger and emit uncommon noise for giving alert alarm to other members. The birds near the human habitats may be seen to eat grain sorting, undegraded seeds in animals is dung, vegetables and fruits etc. In zoos they are fed compounded feeds of poultry alongwith fresh fruits and vegetables like chopped carrot, spinach, greenpea. The common predators are the wild cat, feral dogs and carnivorous birds like eagle, crested hock rock eagle and owls.
