ABSTRACT

The feed additives were antibiotics, arsenicals, hormones, phytohormones and surfectants. The area of feed additives has broadened and now feed additives are non nutrients or nutrients, organic or inorganic, natural or synthetic or complex non toxic compounds used for enhancing growth, production, quality of products and maintenance of good health. Use of antibiotics as feed additives has been banned in many countries and should be banned in the remaining countries. Some of the synthetic anti-oxidants and their quantity mixed in feeds for effective anti-oxidant effects are presented in Table. Various enzyme feed additives of microbial sources capable of breaking down NSP molecules are now available commercially and have been found to increase availability of nutrients, performance of birds and less problem in manure management. Advantages of herbal feed additives may be listed as follows: 13 Oestrogenic and somatotropic hormones were used for increasing growth and fat deposition in the carcass during the previous century.
