ABSTRACT

Humid tropical climate is quite congenial for the multiplication of fungi. Since research on mycotoxicosis is continuing on poultry it would be advantageous to know different kinds of mycotoxins present in foods and feeds. Factors affecting the harmful effects of mycotoxins: The term mycotoxin was coined by a group of veterinarians investigating the cause of mortality of over 100000 Turkey poults at a poultry farm near London in England during 1962. Detection of the presence as well as type and concentration of different mycotoxins is important for the selection of feedstuffs and determination of their ratio in the compounded complete feeds to maintain the levels of mycotoxins below the tolerance level. Many mycotoxins have been found deleterious for the immune system in poultry and other animals. Immuno suppression effect of some mycotoxins reduces disease resistance ability of birds and increases susceptibility for the infectious diseases.
