ABSTRACT

Package of clam culture practices has been developed for the blood clam Anadara granosa and Paphia malabarica, where production of 40 t.ha-1 for culture duration of 6 months and 15 - 25 t / ha for a culture duration of 4 5 months have been achieved in field trials. A number of clam species, mainly belonging to Veneridae, Arcidae and Corbuculidae family are fished from coastal waters of India, and annual estimates of catches are close to a 100,000 tonnes. Sea farming in China started almost 500 years ago mainly in southeast region & particularly in Fujian and Zhejiang coastal regions At present there are about 21,000 ha being cultured in China. Razor clams reared for one year and usually attain shell length of 4–5 cm. Harvesting is done with simple hand tools, such as spades and hooks.
