ABSTRACT

Construction projects have involvement of many participants comprising owner, designer, contractor, and many other professionals from construction-related industries. Each of these participants is involved to implement quality in construction projects. Therefore, the construction projects have become more complex, and technical and extensive efforts are required to reduce rework and costs associated with time, materials, and engineering. Quality in construction projects is achieved through application of various quality control principles, procedures, concepts, methods, tools, and techniques and their applications to various activities/components/subsystems at different phases of the life cycle of a construction project to improve construction process to conveniently manage the project and make them more qualitative, competitive, and economical. Quality tools and techniques are very important to develop a comprehensive project quality management system. Application of tools and techniques in construction projects has a great influence on cost-effectiveness results of construction projects and achieving successful project performance. This chapter discusses significant information about usage and applications of various tools and techniques in different phases of oil and gas construction project focusing through three quality management processes, namely, plan quality, perform quality assurance, and perform quality control.
