ABSTRACT

In the Standard, program management is organized by the five performance domains including: Program Strategy Alignment, Program Benefits Management, Program Stakeholder Engagement, Program Governance, and Program Life Cycle Management. This chapter provides an overview of performance domains and how they interact and work together to successfully deliver programs. Performance domains are logical cluster of knowledge and activities that focus on a specific set of outcomes, accomplishments, and values. In addition to the distinctions between portfolio and project management, program management also exhibits a number of key features. Even though these features are relative and not absolute, practitioners should recognize these features as the plan of how to effectively manage programs. Program management aims for the accomplishment of goals synergized into program benefits. The chapter also contains ten sample questions related to program management performance domains.
