ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the Program Governance and the high-level tasks and activities that program managers should tackle pertaining to this performance domain. It discusses the three most important questions that program managers should ask pertaining to this domain. The chapter also describes the key Program Governance Skills. The goal of the Program Governance performance domain is to provide oversight and make key program decisions. Specific activities include establishing and approving program vision, securing funding and resources, addressing escalated program issues and risks, championing program interests and activities, and supporting the program manager and the program management team. Program Governance involves processes, skills, and techniques in which programs determine, approve, direct, and support key program decisions. The program manager plays a vital role in the design, establishment, and management of the program governance processes. On programs, managing change and escalated issues and risks are an integral part of governance.
