ABSTRACT
This short Chapter explains what statistics are, and also briefly defines terms such as “data”, “populations” and “samples”.
It goes on to define and explain the difference between descriptive and inferential statistics.
Some issues around computer software and other resources for statistics are also discussed along with the importance of understanding the requirements of statistical tests to be performed and interpreting outputs correctly.
