ABSTRACT
This very short Chapter briefly defines epidemiology, along with some key terms such as cases, non-cases, exposure to risk factors, controls, placebo, treatment arms and study groups.
These are related to cohort studies, case-control studies and randomised controlled trials, each of which have their own Chapter later in the book.
