The use of standard deviation to measure how widely a set of data are spread out is explained in this Chapter.
Terms such as heterogeneity and homogeneity are also explained and illustrated.
A commonly used formula for standard deviation is given, though readers are reminded that standard deviation calculations are usually carried out by computer in the real world, eliminating the need to carry them out by hand.
