ABSTRACT
This chapter deals with the issues of standards and specifications relevant to map-making and other related matters. It discusses how to integrate different surveying instruments in mapping applications, accuracy standards and specifications for mapping survey, issues involved in remote sensing and photogrammetric control point survey, integration of GNSS with GIS, map-aided positioning and navigation, map scale, level of detail in the map, accuracy of map, and resolution of map. This chapter also addresses questions like, ‘what should be the survey accuracy for different map scales?’ or ‘which features should be surveyed with which level of accuracy?’ and ‘what is the appropriate instrument?’ etc.
