ABSTRACT

Chapter 5 has challenged the reader to answer questions based on the principles laid out in the previous chapters. This chapter gives fairly detailed numerical answers to the problems laid out in Chapter 5. These are contained in Section 6.1. Anyone using the text to learn must use these answers sensibly. Often there is a temptation to search out the answer first and then look at the question. The fact that detailed answers are supplied enables a learning process, but it also requires a structure within that process and a sensible use of the answers suggested. In Section 6.2, answers are supplied to problems not necessarily directly related to the items given in the main text. These cover energy balances related to flue gas from fuel burning to raise energy on the plant. The problems relate to steam generation and steam superheating.
