ABSTRACT

The input data for the construction of the personal physiological fitness landscape, of course, depend on our access to genomic, proteomic, metabolomics as well as physiological information about the construction and functioning of our body. Hence, in the future, the entire battery of big data analytics can be brought to bear on the resultant construction of precision medicine algorithms that the fitness landscape platform will enable. Fractals found in anatomy and histology (microanatomy) are organized to maximize fitness that facilitates the rate at which energy and/or material resources are taken up from the environment (or wastes eliminated from the body) for maximizing metabolic capacity, allocated to some combination of survival and reproduction. The metabolic switch to fatty acid metabolism in skeletal muscle, away from glucose metabolism as an anticipatory response to overnight energetic stress, constitutes an intricate interplay of circadian patterns of physiology including the interwoven nighttime rise in melatonin that induces slow-wave sleep.
