ABSTRACT

Perennially, the weakest two components in an energy management program are people and communications considerations. For a client to get the maximum benefit of an investment grade audit, it is imperative that these two components be clearly spelled out. People and communications can make or break a plan that is technically perfect. Without solid communication that reaches key people and gains their support, it becomes only a question of who has the biggest rock, or the sharpest scissors. Another global consideration before people talk specifics, is the effective, efficient use of energy. Too often audits and plans focus on energy reduction techniques. A master plan should respect the work environment and the total operation. Some plans are developed simply to form a process for planned replacement of major equipment and/or facilities. Far too often people find replacement recommendations being made to owners prescribing the exact opposite order of priorities.
