ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the threats to various types of facilities and what security measures are commonly taken to mitigate the threats. Many facilities have windows that open, and environmental control is provided by the facility air conditioning and heating systems, but older facilities have windows that can be opened. Facilities may benefit from enhanced lighting in the parking lot, especially if the employees are concerned about violence in the neighborhood. Facilities must continue to be vigilant against the treat of violence in the workplace. Schools have installed Closed Circuit Television systems, which have helped to curb violence in these facilities. In addition to unauthorized access some types of facilities are more subject to lost persons. Facilities that conduct business that are highly visible to protest groups or terrorist groups are subject to the threat of chemical or biological poisoning of air, water or food. However, other facilities are less likely to be subjected to this threat.
