ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the physical security by explaining the tools and techniques available to detect unauthorized access and notify the authority. The electronic intrusion detection system is a combination of devices to detect an intruder, a signal system to carry the information from the sensor to a central processor or device, and a method of notifying security forces or local police that an intruder has attempted or has accessed the property. Perimeter detectors include fence sensors to detect intruders at the fence, microwave and beam detectors to detect persons in the perimeter. Photoelectric beam sensors use light or infrared beams to establish a pattern between a sending unit and a receiving unit. The false alarm is one of the most troublesome of signals from the electronic intrusion detection system. The intrusion detection system can be a valuable asset to the facility.
