ABSTRACT
This chapter discusses the separation, distance and the use of different boundary markers like fences, walls and barricades. The first line of defense for security is physical separation of the assets from the threats. In general, the goal of lighting is to make the lights glare into the eyes of the intruders, while leaving the facility shaded to conceal the activities of the facility or guards. Variations on chain link fence include coating the fabric with vinyl or plastic to make it more appealing and for privacy; wood or plastic slats can be inserted through the wire mesh to obstruct visibility. The manufacturer reports that while a chain link fence can be cut in a few seconds, it takes a few minutes to cut through a WireWall fence. Depending upon how the fence is constructed, it is possible that a wrought iron fence can stop a small vehicle.
