ABSTRACT

One of the first decisions required of the facility manager for computerized access control is what computers to use. In addition to recording the opening and closing of doors and by whom the doors were accessed, the software can set timers to keep track of how long the person has been inside, and timers can be set on the doors themselves. An interlock is a recording of two events that are related with a pause or a hold point that one event must finish before a second event can begin. If it is necessary to evacuate, the mustering option can prepare a list of individuals in order for the facility to verify everyone has been evacuated. The information can be carried with electrical power wire, coaxial cable, fiber optic cable and wireless radio frequency energy. Coaxial cable or Coax, as it is often called by technicians, is a single conductor, usually encased in plastic, surrounded by a wire mesh shield.
