ABSTRACT

Chillers come in many different sizes, types, and configurations. In HVAC, the main function of all chillers is the same: to chill water for air conditioning purposes. All chillers utilize the principles of refrigeration to perform their function. With packaged microprocessor-based chillers, it is possible to confirm chilled water flow without the use of an external flow switch. The chilled water is piped into the facility served, and distributed to the equipment. In a typical chilled water air conditioning application, a chiller will operate to maintain a leaving water temperature setpoint of 45 degrees. Remote start/stop of a chiller is commonly done when the entire HVAC system is controlled by a Building Automation System. A water cooled chiller is a chiller that has all of its refrigeration components indoors, including the condenser.
