ABSTRACT

Make-up air units replace, or “make up” the air that’s removed from a space by some exhaust system. These are systems primarily designed to operate via discharge air temperature control; as the air is removed from the space by the exhaust system, tempered “make-up air” is introduced into the space, typically at space temperature. This chapter covers many of the various types of make-up air units and applications that abound. It looks at packaged units, with focus on application rather than on the internals of the package. The chapter focuses on actual unit controls and the implementation. It explores the integration of “cooling” to make-up air units, as it applies to both packaged and built up systems.
