ABSTRACT
As the local personnel became familiar with their energy consumption and grew comfortable managing energy costs, dramatic savings followed. George Caraghiaur and the Simon Property Group illustrated tremendous leadership in energy awareness and continue to reap the financial rewards. The goal is to reduce energy consumption and building operating costs, improve energy security, reliability and help preserve the environment. Another well-respected source of documented energy savings can be found at Carbon Trust, an independent and nonprofit government funded organization that works with companies in the United Kingdom to cut emissions of carbon dioxide and reduce climate change. Student volunteers from the University's Society for Environmental Action also talked to residents explaining the campaign and its benefits. There were persistent threats of power outages, and residents were beset with rumors of highly escalating energy costs in both their homes and workplaces.
