ABSTRACT

Many involve no changes to building systems (e.g., HVAC). Several (e.g., tax reduction) exist outside tariffs, but may be related to the type of electric load or how bills are rendered and paid. Each may help cut costs related to electric bills. In a major city in the northeast, an old church to which land was bequeathed over more than a century was able to have many of the buildings that were later erected on those grounds to be considered “religious property.” A large food packaging facility had many tenants, each of which used the facility’s refrigerated storage to hold, dress, and package meats for later sale to retail stores and restaurants. Some tariffs allow multiple accounts held by a customer on the same property to be gathered onto one account. For facilities with flexible loads and/or on-site backup generation that may be run when requested by a utility, such a rate may offer significant savings or revenues.
