ABSTRACT
This chapter summarizes the major objectives and the applications of the computer program. The field evaluation of motors provides a means for operators to make informed decisions on the currently operating electric motors. The program provides an estimate of the motor efficiency from field measurements at the operating condition, along with the complete performance map or the operating characteristics throughout the no load to rated service duty range. A computer program was written to process the information collected from the tests. The program gives very detailed information about the motor. Two basic parameters are used to evaluate the financial attractiveness of the alternatives—simple payback and internal rate of return. The chapter presents the results of the economics in replacing 29 motors with higher efficiency motors. Based on the experience and results to date, the broad conclusion emerges that the field testing of motors is likely to be quite useful.
