ABSTRACT
Thin film Photovoltaic (PV) (TFPV) technologies are a relatively new branch of the solar industry, which has grown much faster in popularity and size than the other PV technologies during the last several years. Cadmium telluride (CdTe) is a type of solar cell and module based on thin films of the heavy metal cadmium and its compounds, cadmium telluride (CdTe) and cadmium sulfide (CdS). CdTe is an efficient lightabsorbing material, quite adaptable for the manufacture of thin-film solar cells and modules. CdTe thin-film solar modules are now being mass produced very cheaply, and it is expected with economies of scale that they will achieve the cost reduction needed to compete directly with other forms of energy production in the near future. A fairly new development, this light-activated power generating product is based on a unique and patented solvent-based silicon nanomaterial platform that can be applied like ink on any substrate.
