ABSTRACT

The US political system and some politicians play a decisive role in the ups and downs of the energy-environment debate and activities. Sometimes they are the solution, and sometimes they are the problem. Politics are integral part of the solution, because the transition is unthinkable without the active participation and leadership of our political leaders and regulatory bodies. In 1973, the American government realized that we have a big problem and started a feverish race towards developing new energy sources to obtain energy independence. Soon after the crisis was averted, the energy independence urgency gave way to making a quick buck by importing cheap Arab oil. For the purpose of ensuring our energy security and independence, the US Congress passed the energy independence and security act of 2007. It is an act of Congress addressing concerns US energy policies.
