ABSTRACT
LED lightbars, troffer kits and troffers started to give even the best fluorescent retrofits a run for the money in 2013, and by the end of 2014 the LED kits will probably surpass fluorescent. Many end customers do not have the money or do not want to spend the extra money on hardwired LED troffer kits or LED troffers, especially if they simply make decisions on hard savings and payback. In 2012, LED troffers and LED hardwired troffer kits, with integral optics and about 90 LPW out of the troffer, started to compete fairly well with the best fluorescent troffers and retrofit solutions. Even though hardwired LED troffer kits, especially tunable ones, have much better long-term benefits, it can often be a challenge to pay the higher initial cost. Positive cash flow financing is one example of funding. Every month the savings are greater than what has to be paid to the manufacturer, finance company, bank, or ESCO.
