ABSTRACT

This chapter provides an overview of history of carbon emissions and an analysis of what can be achieved in carbon emission reductions through the effective use of renewable energy generation methods. The need to act now to adapt to climate change and to find ways to mitigate the effects being felt around the world is urgent. Global climate change and greenhouse gases (GHG) emissions are all about opportunities for renewable energy project developers and financing entities and minimizing risks for the potential clients of energy projects. The principal responsible parties for GHG reporting are the same individuals that most project developers and lenders would deal with directly in putting together a renewable energy project. Carbon credits are a key component of national and international attempts to mitigate the growth in concentrations of GHGs. Carbon capture and storage has an essential role in reducing global greenhouse gas emissions.
