ABSTRACT

There is a great need for up-and-coming qualified energy professionals within the building arena. In 1981, Association of Energy Engineers (AEE) offered the first training-based certification in energy management called the “Certified Energy Manager” or CEM. Since then, it has added many other training programs that lead to additional energy-related certifications. AEE certifications single out qualified individuals who can help increase the energy performance of buildings. There are numerous training options offered by AEE for continuing education units (CEUs). Each CEU is the equivalent of 10 Professional Development Hours (PDHs). In 2012, over 39 states required CEUs or PDHs as prerequisites for renewing the Professional Engineer license. North Carolina, New York, and Florida approve AEE courses for continuing education. Furthermore, the American Institute of Architects also recognizes AEE as an approved education provider for continuing education.
