ABSTRACT

The beginning point for Boiler Plant Optimization Program is to establish the as found efficiency for each boiler and system. This information will serve as a datum to show the expected benefits of the program. Also, if the plant is found to be efficient, it will bring credit to those responsible for the plant. In any case the as-found efficiency is important for economic evaluations and justifying additional personnel and modifications to existing systems. To make an honest and accurate evaluation of the potential savings available, all equipment must be in a normal state of repair with the boiler air/fuel ratios at designed levels. Efficiency improvement potential is based on the as-found efficiency. For example, it can be used to show the value of testing the performance of boilers on a regular basis by identifying losses caused by the drop in efficiency from a well-maintained or tuned up condition.
