ABSTRACT

This chapter contains clinical cases associated with patient management on intensive care. This includes patients with pancreatitis, sepsis, abdominal compartment syndrome and acute respiratory distress syndrome. In addition, one of the cases discusses a patient that has had a cardiac arrest following a myocardial infarction, and subsequently requires brainstem death testing, a topic that is common in both the Primary and Final viva examinations. Other topics in this chapter include malnutrition, delirium and the management of an upper gastrointestinal bleed.
