ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses common clinical cases that arise in paediatric anaesthesia and are frequently asked about in the Primary and Final viva examinations. This includes neonatal surgery; inhaled foreign bodies and airway obstruction in paediatric patients; the management of croup; emergence delirium; post-tonsillectomy bleeding; pyloric stenosis and the use of sedatives in anxious children. Candidates are expected to have a good knowledge and understanding of the physiology and anatomy of paediatric patients and the implications on anaesthesia.
