ABSTRACT

This chapter contains clinical cases pertaining to cardiothoracic surgery, which is more relevant for the Final examinations. This includes anaesthesia for specific patients including mitral valve disease, previous cardiac transplant, a patient with a permanent pacemaker and a patient with a lung malignancy requiring a lobectomy. Importantly, the cases include questions on the symptoms, assessment and management of these complex patients. In addition, a number of critical incidents are included, such as cardiac tamponade, cardiac arrest following cardiac surgery and hypoxia when undergoing one-lung ventilation.
