ABSTRACT

This chapter contains clinical cases that are often assessed in both the Primary and Final viva examinations. It includes anaesthesia for acute appendicitis, minimally invasive oesophagectomy and liver transplant. The first case is complicated by the patient’s comorbidities which includes type I diabetes mellitus, necessitating management of diabetic ketoacidosis. The patient undergoing a minimally invasive oesophagectomy has added complications secondary to malignancy. Similarly, the transplant patient demonstrates numerous stigmata of chronic liver disease. These questions will enable the candidate to learn more about how to apply general anaesthetic principles to specific cases.
