ABSTRACT

This chapter contains clinical cases that focus on the anaesthetic management of surgery that takes place close to the airway, including excision of a laryngeal lesion and drainage of a dental abscess. Therefore, concepts such as LASER, THRIVE and the shared airway can be explored. The scientific principles behind LASER are often asked about in both the Primary and Final examinations, so a question on this is included. In addition, patients undergoing laryngeal surgery often have numerous comorbidities that candidates need to take into account when assessing patients.
