ABSTRACT

Adapalene is a member of the retinoid drug class that is typically found in topical formulations used for the treatment of acne. It is a modulator of cellular differentiation, keratinization, and inflammatory processes, all of which represent important features in the pathology of acne vulgaris. Adapalene may also be used off-label to treat keratosis pilaris and certain other skin conditions. A 22-year-old woman presented with a 4-month history of facial erythema and papules with scaling. She had started using adapalene gel for the treatment of acne vulgaris before the appearance of the eruptions, which remitted after discontinuation of treatment, only to recur 2 months later when she resumed the use of the gel.
