ABSTRACT

This chapter provides monographs of fluprednisolone which have caused contact allergy/allergic contact dermatitis. The monographs present: identification section; and contact allergy (general population, patients with dermatitis, case reports and case series). The identification section presents IUPAC names, synonyms, CAS and EC numbers, structural and chemical formulas, Merck Index monographs, and advises on patch testing. From January 1990 to June 2008, in Leuven, Belgium, 315 patients were diagnosed with contact allergy to/allergic contact dermatitis from corticosteroids (CSs) from routine patch testing with a baseline series including tixocortol pivalate, budesonide, hydrocortisone butyrate and prednisone caproate, and from patch testing with patients’ own CS preparations. The chapter also covers an extensive amount of information to benefit dermatologists, allergists, and all others interested in drug allergy.
