ABSTRACT

Miconazole is a synthetic phenethyl imidazole antifungal agent that can be used topically and by intravenous infusion. Miconazole is indicated for topical application in the treatment of tinea pedis, tinea cruris, and tinea corporis caused by Trichophyton rubrum, Trichophyton mentagrophytes, and Epidermophyton floccosum, in the treatment of cutaneous candidiasis and in the treatment of pityriasis (tinea) versicolor. In the period 1990 to 2014, in Leuven, Belgium, 1011 patients suspected of iatrogenic contact dermatitis were tested with miconazole 1% alc. and there were 21 (2.1%) positive reactions. Statistically significant associations have been found in patient data between miconazole, econazole, and isoco- nazole; between sulconazole, miconazole, and econazole.
