ABSTRACT

In Spain, during 2015-2016, 3699 consecutive patients were patch tested with mometasone furoate 0.1% alc. In the period 2000 to 2005, in the USA, 1186 patients suspected of corticosteroid allergy were patch tested with mometasone furoate 0.1% pet. The single reaction to mometasone furoate and it was concluded that this corticosteroid has a low risk of sensitization. In this group of 315 CS allergic patients, 15 had positive patch tests to mometasone furoate 0.1% alc. It is unknown how many of these reactions were caused by the use of a pharmaceutical product containing mometasone furoate and how many were cross-reactions to other corticosteroids. Patch testing showed positive reactions to budesonide and mometasone furoate 0.01% at D3. When the patient inadvertently used the mometasone furoate ointment again, the rash was reproduced. A 70-year-old patient presented with contact dermatitis on the right forearm and hands 7 days after application of mometasone furoate 0.1% cream because of granuloma annulare.
