ABSTRACT

Nicoboxil is an aromatic carboxylic acid and a member of pyridines with topical vasodilatory properties. It is indicated for use as an active ingredient in combination with nonivamide in topical analgesics for the temporary relief of the pain of rheumatism, arthritis, lumbago, muscular aches, sprains and strains, sporting injuries, and other conditions where local warmth is beneficial. A 38-year-old man presented with an eczematous reaction on both knees after topical application of a cream containing 2.5% butoxyethyl nicotinate cream for joint pain. Patch tests were positive to the cream, to its active ingredient nicoboxil 1% and 0.1% pet. A 43-year-old man presented with numerous vesicles and blisters, some of 3 cm in diameter, around his left wrist. The whole hand and forearm up to his elbow was intensely erythematous and edematous, with a sensation of heat, pain, and an itching.
