ABSTRACT

Nifuratel is a member of the furans that has antiprotozoal, antifungal and antibacterial activities. It is used as an ingredient in topical medicaments for the treatment of vulvovaginal infections. Only 7 cases of allergic contact dermatitis from nifuratel have been reported. Although it is mostly prescribed to women for vulvovaginal infections, only two of the patients with ACD from nifuratel were female. A 40-year-old woman presented with a severe, partly erosive, vulvitis and vaginitis. A patch test to the suppository was positive, to the cream negative. The ingredients could not be tested separately, but nifuratel was indeed the most likely allergen.
