ABSTRACT

In a study from Spain, 12 of 3699 consecutive patients (0.3%) reacted to betamethasone dipropionate 0.1% alc.; the relevance of the positive patch tests was not mentioned. In Sydney, Australia, from 1988 to 1994, 19 cases of corticosteroid allergy were diagnosed, including 2 to betamethasone dipropionate. Patch tests were negative to hydrocortisone and the antifungals, but positive to budesonide and the commercial betamethasone dipropionate and mometasone furoate preparations. A 56-year-old man had developed generalized skin eruptions after a betamethasone dipropionate injection and after administration of a budesonide-containing inhalation product. Patch tests were positive to betamethasone dipropionate 1% alcohol and to budesonide 0.1% pet.
