Aceclofenac is also reported to be effective in other painful conditions such as dental and gynecological conditions. In the period 1996-2001, in 2 hospitals in Spain, one patient was diagnosed with contact allergy and zero with photocontact allergy to aceclofenac. A 71-year-old-man developed an acute dermatitis after local application of a cream containing 1.5% aceclofenac for 8 days. Aceclofenac, the carboxymethyl ester of diclofenac, is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug with marked anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties. It is orally administered for the relief of pain and inflammation in osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis. In the period 1996-2001, in 2 hospitals in Spain, one patient was diagnosed with contact allergy and zero with photocontact allergy to aceclofenac. The accumulated incidence per million inhabitants of both side effects together was 1.2. A 61-year-old woman presented with an eczematous rash on her legs which subsequently spread to her face and neck.
