ABSTRACT

In Germany, for the period 1995-2004, the population-based relative incidence of contact sensitization to clobetasol propionate was estimated to be 1.4. In this group of 315 CS allergic patients, 16 had positive patch tests to clobetasol propionate 0.1% alc. In the period 1982-1994, in a center in Tokyo, 11 patients were diagnosed with allergic contact dermatitis from topical corticosteroids, including one case caused by clobetasol propionate. One author in 1994 reviewed the Japanese literature and found 2 reported cases of allergic contact dermatitis to clobetasol propionate in 2 articles published in the period 1988-1991. A 63-year-old man presented with severe scaly erythema on his scalp, face, and neck, and erythema on his trunk, arms, and legs after having been treated with clobetasol propionate ointment and lanoconazole cream. Patch tests were positive to clobetasol 0.05% ointment 'as is', clobetasol propionate 0.05% pet., lanoconazole cream 'as is' and lanoconazole 0.1% and 1% pet.
