ABSTRACT

Collagenase clostridium histolyticum is an enzyme produced by the bacterium Clostridium histolyticum and a member of the matrix metalloproteinases that cleaves triple-helical collagen types I, II, and III. It is used as a powder- and-solvent injection kit for the treatment of Dupuytren’s contracture, a condition where the fingers bend towards the palm and be fully straightened, and Peyronie’s disease, a connective tissue disorder involving the growth of fibrous plaques in the soft tissue of the penis. A 62-year old woman and a 53-year-old female patient were both treated with an ointment containing 0.6 U clostridiopeptidase A and 0.01 gr. chloramphenicol/gr. ointment. A 62-year-old woman was referred for an itchy eruption on the left leg that had appeared 2 weeks into a bandage treatment with an ointment containing a mixture of collagenase clostridiopeptidase A and proteases.
