ABSTRACT

In the period 1988-1991, in the United Kingdom, 528 patients with a positive patch test to tixocortol pivalate or suspected of corticosteroid allergy were tested with desonide 20% pet. In this group of 315 CS allergic patients, 59 had positive patch tests to desonide 0.1% alc. It is unknown how many of these reactions were caused by the use of a pharmaceutical product containing desonide and how many were cross-reactions to other corticosteroids. Patch tests were positive to a preparation containing desonide and to desonide 0.1% pet. When she later had a recurrence, the patient was patch tested again and now reacted to the desonide ointment and desonide 0.05% pet. An open patch test to the desonide cream was strongly positive. Patch tests were positive to desonide cream, desonide ointment and desonide 0.05% pet. The patient reported worsening of her eruption when she was treated with a cream containing desonide.
