ABSTRACT

With the growing industrialization and urbanization, environment is under constant pressure. Contamination of the water is one of the big issues the world is facing today. Water pollution has an adverse impact on ecosystem and water micro- and macro-flora, and it can indirectly lead to air and soil pollution, which consequently affects plant and animals and represents one of the major causes of human health issues. Water pollution also has an adverse impact on the societies’ and countries’ economic growth and social perspectives. A United Nations report recently stated that the availability of purified and freshwater is a global issue and becomes a challenge for the whole world in the 21st century, as the survival of living creatures is not safe with contaminated water (Gitis and Hankins, 2018; Hodges et al., 2018).
