ABSTRACT

In the contemporary approach to material history and archaeology, the study of the design concepts, materials and techniques underlying the construction of each monument is of crucial importance. Moreover, conservation requirements make it necessary to be fully aware of the complete history of the interventions that have taken place over time.

This has led to the concept of constructive restoration, which involves various sectors of engineering and, in particular, the closely interrelated fields of geotechnical engineering and structural analysis.

This chapter explores the concept of constructive restoration, providing examples of interventions that illustrate the implementation of the principles outlined in the volume.
